PERRY CHAHAL is an educated, well-rounded and approachable individual. He was born and raised in Edmonton and has lived in the City for more than 34 years. Perry is married to an elementary school teacher and they have two children. Perry is passionate about his community, province and country.
Perry is well known in the Edmonton region as an individual that cares about the direction the government is going. He was a Public School Board Trustee Candidate that ran in the first husband and wife campaign in Alberta History for opposite boards. He was a Honourary Mayor of the City of Edmonton for his charitable contributions. Perry received his Bachelors of Science and Masters in Business Administration and was a successful Government Relations advisor to all levels of government. He has been successful in all of his endeavours within the Municipal, Provincial and Federal arenas.
Chahal worked for many City of Edmonton Council Members, and was the lead for special Ad-Hoc initiatives including a successful campaign in 2001 in which he was an active member of a board that stopped the sale of EPCOR. He was also appointed to the oldest City of Edmonton Commission (EBWC). Perry made recommendations to City of Edmonton Council for a complete overhaul to make the Commission more open and transparent; all recommendations were approved.
As a private citizen Chahal was in India and assisted the Office of the Premier, and the Office of the Minister of Intergovernmental and International Affairs with meetings with the Governments of India and Punjab. These meetings have now enabled Alberta to start the process of growing a relationship with India for trade, which will be for the betterment of all Albertans.
Perry maintains an open dialogue with ALL members of the Provincial Government, including Ministers and caucus leaders. His personal and professional relationships extend to ALL opposition party members thus allowing him to be positioned within a neutral and non-partisan stance at ALL times for the best interest of the people he is serving.
Chahal is one of the two businessmen that fought to save his community medical centre by assuring that 27,000 patients within his North East Edmonton region would continue to have a medical centre due to the retirement of Medical Doctors. Chahal was successful in recruiting 12 medical Doctors and Nurses and developed an interdisciplinary, patient focused health environment thus continuing the legacy of the non-private health care system that served his community for the past 40 years. In addition, Perry bonded a relationship with an inner-city school, Ben Calfe Robe Elementary School; this relationship assisted the School and the teaching staff by connecting the students who didn’t have medical care with the appropriate health care professionals and medical resources.
Presently, Perry is a health care consultant who is assisting First Nation Bands with health care initiatives and is successfully bridging the provincial and federal jurisdictions to optimize health care delivery for a community of 15,000 residents. Perry is a consensus builder with the heart and mindset for the betterment of Albertans and all Canadians.
Perry states the reason that he is running for a senate nomination seat is simple:
“I love three things: 1) My Family, 2) My Province, and 3) My Country. As a Senator, I will be able to protect democracy for ALL three things that I love.”
